Aguiléra will host European matches, the development project relaunched

The European Cup will be in Aguiléra this year. It’s a certainty. The Biarritz enclosure will indeed host the BOPB confrontations against Newcastle and Toulon in January and April.. For several months, the current management of the club evoked a relocation to Lille as part of the European Challenge, as for the friendly match last August against Bordeaux-Bègles. But that’s old history now.

And as one more proof, if until now, the EPCR, body which organizes the European competitions did not indicate the site of the matches to come, this Monday, as specified the newspaper “South West”, the name of the Aguiléra stadium appeared. A sign, a helping hand will say some or a gesture of good faith for others on the part of the current management of Biarritz Olympique and its president Jean-Baptiste Aldigé, who after long months of tension with the municipality of Biarritz , resumed negotiations with the City around the Aguiléra project.

This project provides for the renovation and development of the stadium, accompanied by the creation of a modern training center. Initially, the basic project was deemed too expensive by the municipality and the mayor, Maider Arostéguy, in the lead. The city council then defended itself by speaking in particular of a long, “incompressible” schedule. But after the threats, the relocation counterfeits lit in Lille or San Sebastián, the two parties have since last month resumed exchanges to work on a new Aguiléra project.

What about Mecdu, the Compatibility of town planning documents, put forward for a while in this file by the public authorities? What about deadlines ? This summer, during a first public meeting on the subject, the City evoked the completion of the first improvements “current 2025/2026” and that before this date, many procedures had to be launched: studies of the soil, networks, the change of the local urban plan (via Mecdu), the public inquiry and the environmental mission which must give its opinion on the development of Aguiléra. At the same time, Biarritz had launched this summer a call for a programmer who – from this fall and until next summer – was to be responsible for conceptualizing the future district and its developments. It needed a “consistency throughout the Aguiléra district” then defended the elected representatives of the majority. Can the stadium works, will they be separated from the rest of the set-up?

The contours of the new project, already outlined for the first time almost three years ago by Jean-Baptiste Aldigé, under the mandate of Michel Veunac, could in any case take shape. “by the end of the year” We are told between the services of the town hall and the management of the BOPB.
