Agriculture: transhumance accessible to all

It’s a special way to enjoy the sun. For some years now, it has been possible in the Mercantour to become a shepherd for a day by helping professionals with the traditional transhumance of animals. Children are amazed by the spectacle of these large herds marching towards the peaks. In addition to walking, a farm has been set up and families can watch the sheep shearing, a usual activity in this season. For the shepherds, it is also a good way to make their profession better known.

Another place, but the same passion since in the Cévennes, it is also possible to witness transhumance. The breeder has marked his animals to recognize them and avoid losing any along the way. “It was time to climb, but we realize that even at altitude, it is not cold, far from it, and the air is thinner”, smiles Jean-Louis Boisson.
