Like every evening, the 11pm news report takes a look at the news broadcast by European television channels. It’s the Eurozapping of Friday, July 5.

In Germany, the coalition has reached an agreement on the 2025 budget. They negotiated until 5 a.m., liberals, greens and socialists agreed to provide Germany with a growth budget. The coalition is saved, a relief. “We seek compromises, sometimes half the night, sometimes all night”explained Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Germany wants to remain a pole of stability in a Europe in turmoil. The budget is to be voted on in Parliament in November.

In Spain, the Prime Minister’s wife is before the courts. Pedro Sanchez’s partner, Begoña Gomez, has been given a delay until July 19 because the court added a new charge of influence peddling and corruption to the case. A delay that irritates the opposition because the case is primarily political. At first, Pedro Sanchez withdrew for five days, threatening to resign, before finally returning to power.
