Agreement in principle between Quebec and 600 paramedics

(Quebec) The Quebec government and paramedics reached an agreement in principle on Friday.

It concerns some 600 members of the Brotherhood of Pre-Hospital Workers of Quebec, a local section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the FTQ.

The Minister responsible for Government Administration and President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, and the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, made the announcement Friday evening in a press release. It is specified that the agreement remains confidential until it is ratified by the members.

“As we indicated in the Health Plan, it is also by promoting services upstream of emergencies that we will allow our organization of work to be more efficient,” specified Minister Dubé, adding that the agreement in principle “will make it possible both to improve the working conditions of paramedics and front-line services to the population”.

The union estimated last week to be in the last right of negotiation, while its members have been without a contract since 1er April 2020.
