A “group attack” where a former police officer is “targeted”, leaving him with physical consequences and heavy trauma: the public prosecutor’s office requests 10 years in prison for two men accused of the invasion of the home of Pierre Poletti, ex- SPVM organized crime investigator.
“We are talking about a planned and premeditated group attack,” explained Crown Prosecutor M.e Philippe Vallières-Rolland Friday morning at the Montreal courthouse.
On June 12, 2020 in the borough of LaSalle, three men broke into the residence of Pietro Poletti, a retired investigator and organized crime specialist, while a fourth accomplice was waiting for them in his car.
When Mr. Poletti answered the door, in his dressing gown, the three suspects jumped on him and beat him, including with bricks and snow brooms. One of the men even shouted: “kill him, it’s him, kill him”, before the trio quickly left the scene.
Mitchaino Bruno and Yadley Deutz-St-Jean are accused of taking part in the attack. The other two accomplices have already been tried.
M. Poletti a souffert de quelques blessures, lacérations et ecchymoses et sa mère, âgée de 82 ans, a également été molestée dans la bagarre.
Le ministère public demande la même peine pour les deux accusés, malgré le peu d’antécédents judiciaires de Yadley Deutz-St-Jean.
Son complice Mitchaino Bruno a quant à lui une longue feuille de route en matière de criminalité. On rapporte également huit manquements disciplinaires en prison.
Terreur nocturne, insomnie, peur que les assaillants reviennent à la charge : la brutale agression a laissé la victime, un ancien enquêteur au crime organisé, avec une anxiété persistante. Il n’a pas pu réintégrer les forces de l’ordre à temps partiel et a dû arrêter de donner des cours au cégep.
Il vit avec un besoin constant de « regarder par-dessus son épaule », ajoute le procureur de la Couronne.
« C’est une attaque de groupe. C’est pourquoi on ne fait pas de distinction entre le niveau de participation des deux accusés », a renchéri Me Vallières Rolland.
La mère de M. Poletti, témoin de l’attaque survenue en juin 2020, a été poussée par les assaillants. Elle a dû elle aussi composer avec de nombreux traumatismes.
« La preuve démontre seulement qu’il y avait un individu visé. [Les accusés] did not know that the mother was there, “said one of the defense lawyers, Ms.e Noemie Tellier.
Me Alexie Galarneau, Mr. St-Jean’s lawyer, is asking for 5 years in prison. Me Tellier suggests 6 years for his client.
Judge Alexandre Dalmau condemned the “amateur work” of the two defendants. “That says a lot about their dangerousness,” he added. He also pointed to the fact that the assault took place inside a private residence, in front of an elderly woman.
He will render his sentencing decision on July 14.
