Recently, the government of Quebec deflated on the issue of mandatory vaccine for health workers. Isn’t it disturbing to see a government back down on a measure announced with great fanfare in the media?
A bit like a parent, a government loses all credibility when it does not keep its commitments, positive or negative. How to explain this lack of resolution? A lack of planning, certainly, but also a blatant lack of ethics; although the vaccination passport is required for visitors, it is not required for caregivers. That does not make any sense.
In a time of health emergency like the one we are living in, science is our best asset to protect the most vulnerable. Healthcare workers should be the first to embrace science and do everything in their power to protect the patient, which, after all, is the primary role of the healthcare worker. Hopefully the government is more resolute in November.
