Present on the 20 Heures set, Thursday February 22, journalist Stéphanie Perez returns to the situation in Ukraine, after two years of fighting.
After two long years of war in Ukraine, “the proportion of territories occupied by Russia has fallen from 25% to 17%, and the fighting is bogged down on the front line in the East”, indicates journalist Stéphanie Perez on the set of 20 Heures, Thursday February 22. “It is the Russians who are on the offensive at the moment in several battles. The Ukrainians, for their part, are suffering from the lack of Western ammunition,” explains the journalist.
“Ukraine can no longer mobilize”
“Ukrainian civilians are paying a very heavy price: according to the UN, perhaps up to 50,000 dead, and a few hundred on the Russian side,” continues Stéphanie Perez. “Total secrecy, however, regarding military losses. We have some rather reliable American estimates: 70,000 dead on the Ukrainian side, 120,000 on the Russian side”, she adds. The journalist finally indicates that “Ukraine can no longer mobilize”. “These two years of war have got the better of the patriotic enthusiasm of the first days”she concludes.
