Finally, it’s the great return of the Saint-Jean de Saint Sever celebrations for an exceptional edition. For 5 days, the whole city comes alive to the rhythm of the many activities and experiences many completely new moments.
This year the celebrations have a particular flavor for the Saint-Séverins. Indeed, they have not taken place for three years because of the health situation but also because this year announces two major events concerning the bullfighting and festive world. It is for this reason that it will be honored during these holidays.
The city and the festival committee have prepared activities for you to match the event. Among the most important, there is the cavalcade with the handing over of the keys on Friday. Ballotines competition and children’s day on Saturday. On Sunday the cavalcade will take place again. And finally the race of the cooks and the traditional fireworks on Monday.
This year, Saint-Sever will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its Henri Capdeville bullring but also the 50th anniversary of the action of French bullfighters. The latter consists of remembering June 25, 1972 when French bullfighters jumped on the ring during a novillada with foreign participants in order to promote that carried out by French people. It is partly thanks to this event that many French professionals have made a career in all trades in the bullfighting world.
On Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26, two bullfights will be held, bringing together three Spanish “figuras”: Miguel Angel Perera, Daniel Luque and Emilio de Justo, as well as three French matadors destined for a great career: Clemente, El Rafi and Thomas Dufau. With toros from three different ganaderias (two French and one Spanish).
