Head above water. New Zealand revived on Saturday August 13, beating South Africa (35-23) in Johannesburg (South Africa) on the second day of the Rugby Championship, the equivalent of the Six Nations Tournament in the southern hemisphere. The All Blacks have thus ended a series of three consecutive defeats, offering a little respite to their coach, Ian Foster.

After five failures in their last six meetings, the New Zealand players have finally won the Freedom Cup, which goes to the winner of the meetings against the South Africans during the competition. The All Blacks being defending champions, they keep the cup despite their defeat on August 6th. The Springboks would have had to win both games to take it.
Fifth of the World Rugby World Rankingits worst all-time ranking, the New Zealand team was often outplayed in the match. The outcome of the match has long been uncertain at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. But two tries scored at the very end of the match, by David Havili (74th) and Scott Barrett (79th), cut short any suspense.
