“The container ship Ever Forward ran aground Sunday evening after leaving the port of Baltimore,” said William Doyle, director of the Port Authority of the State of Maryland, in a statement sent to AFP.

This 344-meter-long boat, blocked near a channel in the Chesapeake Bay, at the exit of the port of Baltimore, “does not prevent other ships from accessing the port of Baltimore”, details the press release.

The port authority indicates that there are no injuries or leaks detected. “Efforts have been underway since last night to try to free the ship, and will continue,” she continues, adding that the coast guards “are monitoring the situation. »

The Ever Forward was to reach the port of Norfolk, south of the Chesapeake Bay.

Aerial footage from local television filmed on Monday shows the huge boat at a standstill in the middle of the bay, with the name of the company inscribed in white on the huge green hull: “Evergreen”, made famous in spite of itself in last March.

A year ago, another container ship of the company, the Ever Given, had blocked the Suez Canal, causing a major disruption in world maritime traffic.

The nearly 200,000-ton ship had its bow embedded in the eastern bank of the canal during a sandstorm on March 23, blocking the passage between Europe and Asia, which handles around 10% of the world’s maritime trade.

The images of this ship, one of the largest in the world, stuck for almost a week across the crucial sea route, had had a lot of impact on social networks and in the international media.
