For the third night in a row, violence erupted in many cities in France. A situation which pushes the authorities to be cautious, in particular National Education, while many school parties and fairs are planned these days. Minister Pap Ndiaye brought together the rectors on Thursday evening, and the precautionary principle is in order. In the academy of Versailles, the largest in France, the end-of-year celebrations such as fairs and school parties, “subject to a case-by-case assessment”, says the rector on Friday, June 30. In the Créteil academy, the rectorate “advises to cancel or postpone the end-of-year celebrations of colleges and high schools”. In that of Paris, “the end of year celebrations can be maintained as long as they do not exceed 7:00 p.m.”.
School trips canceled
In total, during the night from Thursday to Friday, around sixty schools were degraded throughout France, in addition to around fifty the night before. Six were burned or badly damaged and are downright closed. This is the case of a college in Strasbourg, which will not reopen by the holidays.
In this context, whether or not to maintain the end-of-year celebrations is therefore decided locally, and since Thursday evening there have been many cancellations. This is the case for example for the nursery school of this mother of a pupil, in Asnières-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine): the fair scheduled for Friday evening will not take place. “We are in a neighborhood where there were events not very far away. But last night, nothing happened, there was no school burnt… But it is enough that there is something happens so that it falls on the director, so I understand her. It’s hard on the children. It’s something we’ve been talking about for weeks, it’s kind of the peak of the social life of the school. It’s a shame.”
In some places, school outings scheduled for this Friday have also been canceled. Finally, the heads of establishments must ensure that nothing is left around the buildings: garbage cans, construction site items or pallets, which could be used for damage.
