On Saturday, the hostages were freed by the Israeli army in central Gaza. The IDF says they were held in apartment buildings, among families of civilians and guards. The army announced one death in its ranks and around a hundred on the Palestinian side. Hamas, for its part, reports a much heavier toll, which would rise to 274 killed and more than 400 injured. “There were 50 of us taking refuge here and we saw missiles flying above our heads.
