On the 37th day of the war in Ukraine, the town of Irpin, located not far from kyiv, was liberated on Friday 1 April. After the Russian bombardments, the city is devastated.
Friday 1st April, on the 37th day of the war in Ukraine, Irpin (Ukraine), a wealthy suburb of kyiv (Ukraine) is disfigured. After weeks of bombardment, the city no longer has drinking water or electricity. “None of my neighbors stayed, everyone was evacuated”testifies a 65-year-old woman, the only one in her neighborhood who has not left her apartment. “The bombings were terrifying”testifies the woman, who shows the damage caused in her neighborhood.
In Irpin, the inhabitants who have not fled are elderly or frail. Friday 1st April, the Russians were pushed back from the city. Irpin had 80,000 inhabitants. They would only be 3,500 after the war. “It’s happening in Europe, in the 21st century, it’s madness”, testifies a resident. Friday 1st April, the International Red Cross entered the city center for the first time.
