Inscription of abortion in the Constitution in France, legacy of Simone Veil or clandestine abortionists, decline of this right of women around the world… franceinfo journalists look back on the history and the slow conquest of the right to abortion with experts on this subject, which continues to spark debate in France and in the United States in particular.
Before the Veil law of January 17, 1975, abortion, voluntary termination of pregnancy, was not authorized in France. Women who wanted to terminate an unwanted pregnancy risked their lives by turning to clandestine and homemade solutions.
In this live presented by Laure Weise, we welcome experts on the issue of the right to abortion: the lawyer and activist Kadija Azougach, as well as the professor of constitutional law Véronique Champeil-Desplats. They will answer your questions on the inclusion of abortion in the Constitution.
We also welcome journalists from the editorial team such as Justine Cosemans, who will discuss the history of abortionists, or the “angel makers” as well as Camille Guttin, journalist from France Télévisions based in Washington, who will return to current events and evolution of the right to abortion across the Atlantic.
You can now ask your questions about the right to abortion to our journalists and experts in the form below. They will respond live on Friday March 8 on our Twitch channel, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
