Alexis Vastine, a talented boxer, disappeared in Argentina in 2015 with nine of his friends, in a helicopter accident. A documentary looks back on the life of his father after the tragedy, Alain Vastine.

Boxer Alexis Vastine died in 2015 in Argentina, in a helicopter accident, on the set of a reality TV show. He was a big name in boxing whose sporting destiny was thwarted several times. For the first time in 2008, in Beijing, he won a bronze medal, but this medal had a bitter taste since he was the victim of two more than questionable refereeing penalties. And when history stutters, at the London Games in 2012, we still get chills, when Alexis Vastine still only wins the bronze medal.

Alain Vastine survives and clings to boxing

Arnaud Romera had the idea full of tenderness: to dedicate a documentary to Alain Vastine, the father of Alexis, a man broken by the death of his son, who only two months before this tragic accident had the pain of losing his daughter in a car crash. Life has separated this modest family from Normandy, two children out of five have left. They who had all received the love of boxing: 24 championship titlesnot from France between the five of them. Alain Vastine survives and sticks to boxing, training. “It makes me feel good because I’ve always done this. For me it’s like a second family in fact”confides Alain Vastine in this documentary: Alain Vastine, Still standing.
