Period films are on the rise this year! While Johnny Depp will lend his features to Louis XV in Maïwenn’s next film, a great actor has also agreed to play the role of a famous king of France. After playing the character of Asterix in “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire” – directed by himself – Guillaume Canet has indeed started a 180 degree turn by putting himself in the shoes of Louis XVI in the part of an upcoming film.
As the Cineuropa site reveals, Marion Cotillard’s husband will play the role of the famous king of France who marked the end of the 18th century in a feature film called “The Deluge”. A film written and directed by Gianluca Jodice and whose filming has already ended according to our colleagues.

Mélanie Laurent also in the casting
A film that should delight fans of historical films… And for good reason, in addition to the presence of the director and actor, Mélanie Laurent is also among the cast of this feature film. The Caesarized actress will play Marie-Antoinette while actors Aurore Broutin, Hugo Dillon, Tom Hudson, Roxane Duran, Anouk Darwin Homewood, Vidal Arzoni and Fabrizio Rongione are also part of the cast.
A film called “Le Déluge” whose release date is still a mystery. Fortunately, to make us wait, our colleagues from Cineuropa have already unveiled a photo of Guillaume Canet and Mélanie Laurent in the middle of filming while they are obviously dressed in period costumes… An image to discover below !
