The anti-Semitic act that struck the synagogue of La Grande-Motte has provoked national emotion. Several rallies took place in France on Sunday, August 25 in support of the Jewish community.

In the heart of a residential area of La Grande-Motte (Hérault), the synagogue has become an ultra-secure place. Soldiers from Operation Sentinelle have been deployed since the morning of Sunday, August 25. The doors are still blackened by the explosion. The president of the Jewish religious association of La Grande-Motte speaks with a hidden face. “There is a very significant trauma (…) The watchword is: ‘We get up and we live'”she explains.

Members of the Jewish community present at the synagogue are refusing to comment for the moment. The attack has revived fears, even if the suspect’s arrest is a relief. The emotion extends beyond the Jewish community: the president of a mosque in a district of Nîmes (Gard) has given his support. On the evening of Sunday, August 25, demonstrations against anti-Semitism are being organized. A rally in front of the synagogue in La Grande-Motte is planned for the following day at 7 p.m.
