“If necessary, we will go even further”. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said she was ready to put more resources into protecting the French, after the attack which left one dead and two injured near the Eiffel Tower on Saturday December 2, in an interview with Figaro posted online Wednesday December 6.

“We are mobilizing resources for these Olympic Games (in Paris) and we will mobilize more if necessary”, says the head of government, after an attack which raised concerns about the State’s capacity to secure the capital in preparation for the event. The head of government suggests in particular that individuals like the suspect in the attack near the Bir-Hakeim bridge, indicted on Wednesday for “assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise” and known to the intelligence services for his radical Islamism and his psychiatric disorders, may be subject to “even more sustained attention”.

Legislative calendar

On the very sensitive immigration bill, Elisabeth Borne says her “trust” in Gérald Darmanin to find a majority in the National Assembly without resorting to 49.3. But she also says she expects “proposals” on his part and from the Minister of Health Adrien Rousseau to possibly adapt the AME, State Medical Aid for undocumented foreigners, called into question by the Senate.

On the economic front, she does not take up the proposal of her Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire to reduce the duration of unemployment compensation for those over 55. “My first concern is that seniors remain employed”she said, suggesting “loosen” gradual retirement.

The Prime Minister also discussed the government’s legislative calendar for the coming months. He will be “guided by the affirmation of authority, the search for full employment, the questions of energy and housing, the transformation of our agriculture, the effectiveness of public action”explains Elisabeth Borne.
