In Moselle, after the rape of a woman in a car park, the mayor of Metz wants to reserve spaces near the exit doors for women.
Some women are not at ease with the idea of crossing an underground car park alone. In Metz (Moselle), during the month of August, a woman was raped for nearly two hours in one of them, despite the 120 video surveillance cameras. The mayor of the city does not want to see this situation repeated and he plans to introduce parking zones reserved for women. François Grosdidier, mayor (DVD) of Metz, wants, in private and public car parks, “reserve the seats closest to the entrance and exit for women.”
This security measure is welcomed by the inhabitants of Metz. “I always try to put myself near an exit door, if I can find one,” explains one of them. These are rare occurrences, but to avoid them, yes, it is a good thing,” assures another. In Luxembourg, where 3% of parking spaces are reserved for women, the measure is not always respected by other motorists.
