(Boston) Alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction has canceled the remainder of its tour following an onstage fight between singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro.
In a brief statement released Monday, the band announced that they had made the “difficult decision to take a break as a group,” adding that the remainder of the tour would be cancelled.
The move comes days after videos showed Farrell lunging at Navarro during a concert in Boston on Friday, slamming him with his shoulder before striking the guitarist with his right arm.
Navarro is then seen holding Farrell at bay with his right arm, before the singer is dragged onto the stage by others. The show ended shortly after and the band apologized.
Jane’s Addiction is known for its bold, punk-inspired hits. Been Caught Stealing And Mountain Song in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the alternative rock and grunge music movements were in full swing.
In a post shared on Instagram Saturday, Perry Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, explained that her husband’s frustration was “building, day by day” because he felt his voice was being drowned out by the noise of the music.
She said her husband suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat and that “at the end of the song he wasn’t singing, he was just screaming to be heard.”
She added that he then broke down “and cried and cried.”
The tour Imminent Redemption The group’s tour began in early August and was scheduled to end on October 16 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
