The thermal power station of Gardanne-Meyreuil, whose start-up was disrupted by social conflicts linked to its transition from coal to biomass, restarted on Thursday. After almost three years of shutdown, the owner, the company GazelEnergie, is delighted and hopes to produce within a few months 150 megawatts, the equivalent of household consumption in the city of Marseille (860,000 inhabitants).
By 2026, the GazelEnergie company wishes to diversify with the distribution of bio-fuels to cruise ships moored in the port of Marseille, but also to planes at Marignane airport. Total cost of the operation: 400 million euros.
