“Maigret”, directed by Patrice Leconte, will come out in theaters Wednesday 23 Februaryr. It is Gérard Depardieu who embodies the famous commissioner. Before him, Bruno VSremer, Jean Richard or even Jean Gabin had lent their features to this popular investigator, invented by the Belgian author Georges Simenon.

It’s the return of Jules Maigret, the legendary superintendent. His hat, his pipe, his overcoat, his carcass and his economy of words are immutable. For this new interpretation, Gérard Depardieu, all in melancholy and darkness, slowly investigates. “His investigation is his travels, the way he looks at things“, says actor Gérard Depardieu.

The creator of Maigret, the writer Simenon, knew what his character should look like on screen. “What matters most to me about the actors who play Maigret is their weight. (…) Their physical weight, their presence“, he declared. Maigrets on screen, there were a host of them. De Bruno VSThanks to Jean Richard for television, passing by Jean Gabin for the cinema, many actors have tried the effort. Since 1930 and a century of Maigret, the superintendent has always followed the same method: no punches, no gunshots.
