After its triumph at the Golden Globes, “Oppenheimer” tops the nominations for the SAG Awards, a ceremony broadcast on Netflix

The Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony to be held in Los Angeles on February 24, 2024 will, for the first time, be broadcast simultaneously on Netflix.

Big winner of the Golden Globes on Monday, Oppenheimer arrived on Wednesday January 10, 2024 at the top of the nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), awards from the American actors’ union considered as a good indicator for the Oscars.

The SAG Awards ceremony will be broadcast live for the first time this year on the platform of the global streaming giant, Netflix, and should thus benefit from renewed notoriety.

Oppenheimera tortuous portrait of the designer of the atomic bomb, directed by Christopher Nolan, was nominated in several categories, including those of “best acting ensemble”the most sought-after prize at the SAG Awards.

Actors Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt are also individually selected by their peers.

Good indicator of the Oscars

Hailed by critics, the three-hour biopic, which earned nearly a billion dollars, is poised to become a favorite in the Oscar race which will be held on the night of Sunday March 10, 2024.

Martin Scorsese’s historical fresco Killers of the Flower Moon obtains three individual nominations, the actor Leonardo DiCaprio is however conspicuously absent.

On the small screen side, the series Succession garners five nominations, followed by The Bear, The Last of Us And Ted Lasso which each have four. The SAG Awards are voted on by actors and are, as such, considered an excellent indicator for the Oscars.

Actors constitute the most important college within the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences which awards the prestigious golden statuettes. The 30th SAG Awards will be held in Los Angeles on February 24.

Prices after the strikes in Hollywood

During this evening, the union will present an honorary award to actress and singer Barbra Streisand for her entire career.

The speeches given during the gala will certainly refer to the strikes in Hollywood which marked the year 2023 and led to the immobilization of the cinema industry.

An agreement was finally ratified in November between the studios and the actors’ union, ending a months-long strike.

The Hollywood Directors Union (DGA) also announced its nominations on Wednesday for the DGA Awards, which will take place on February 10.

They also nominated Oppenheimer And barbie among the five contenders for the Best Film award. They will face Killers of the Flower Moonthe Christmas comedy Winter Break and the baroque Poor Creaturesa fanciful variation on the theme of Frankenstein, already awarded two Golden Globes on Sunday January 7, 2024.
