She achieved France’s lowest score in the Miss World competition since Flora Coquerel in 2014… This Saturday, March 9, 2024, Clémence Botino suffered disillusionment
by only climbing into the Top 40 of the competition which took place in Mumbai, India, and who saw the coronation of Miss Czech Republic
Krystyna Pyszková. Miss France 2020, who had seen her year of reign paralyzed by Covid-19 and the imposed confinements and curfews, failed to qualify for the Top 12, and thus did less well than April Benayoum , Ophély Mézino or even Maëva Coucke and Aurore Kichenin, who had all reached at least the Top 12. Better yet, Ophély Mézino in 2019 had managed to be crowned first runner-up, and Aurore Kichenin had reached the Top 5.
A disillusionment on which Clémence Botino has just reacted on her X account. The Miss has just announced that she has made a radical decision in view of this failure. “For my part, I have absolutely no regrets, I gave absolutely everything. I don’t think I had ever prepared so much for a competition. I was sincere, authentic. I always listened to my heart . It is with great pride that I was able to represent my country.” she began, before revealing that she had made the decision to retire: “After five years traveling across regions and countries, it is time for me to retire”.
A career in television or a return to anonymity?
It remains to be seen what career Clémence Botino will undertake. Many Misses have succeeded in establishing themselves on television after retiring, like Élodie Gossuin, Valérie Bègue, Iris Mittenaere, Laury Thilleman, Sylvie Tellier, Nathalie Marquay and Delphine Wespiser. Linda Hardy and Sonia Rolland turned to comedy and became brilliant actresses. Other Misses preferred to fall back into anonymity, and return to their old lives, such as Malika Ménard and Marine Loiseauwho, although a columnist on Télématin, chose to continue her medical studies and is now a dental surgeon.
