after Gabriel Attal’s announcements, the Élysée prepares a sequence on training and research

The Minister of Education announced on Tuesday a whole series of measures to raise the academic level of French students. Gabriel Attal makes an impression but it is Emmanuel Macron who will be at the forefront in the days to come on the question of training.

While the Pisa investigation attributes the “donkey cap” to France on Tuesday December 5, Gabriel Attal draws up a set of measures to “a clash of knowledge”. The objective is to raise the level of young French students, particularly in mathematics. The Minister of National Education announced on Tuesday December 5 that he wanted to shake up the programs, restore the repetition of a year imposed on parents or even set up level groups. Moreover, for this, he promises to create thousands of positions, particularly in college.

“Gabriel Attal is already the good student par excellence”, laughs a minister. And with great interventions in the 8 p.m. news and interviews, he “builds a political identity”, judges one of his colleagues. He stamps his style with shocking measures, such as calling into question the baccalaureate reform of his predecessor Jean-Michel Blanquer, the fight against school bullying, the ban on the abaya and now the return to compulsory repetition. He is also due to announce the expansion of the school uniform experiment in the coming days.

Four months after his arrival at the head of one of the most complicated ministries to manage, the “mammoth”the young 34-year-old minister arouses among certain Macronists a real “Attal-mania”, and he makes as many friends as enemies. At the beginning of October, for the first time, Gabriel Attal was tested in an IFOP survey for the JDD. And to the question “what better candidate to succeed Emmanuel Macron”, he overtakes Edouard Philippe. “It’s the one we didn’t see coming,” worries a friend of the former Prime Minister. “It appeals to those looking for a new Macron”, enrages one of his colleagues, despite being convinced that “the layer will not work”. For him, “there will be no Macron 2”. An old traveling companion of the president is not of this opinion: it is not impossible that one day, he says, “the student surpasses the master”.

Emmanuel Macron takes over to talk about the future

Should we deduce from this that Gabriel Attal is aiming higher by presenting shock measures? You have to be wary of appearances. Many attribute ambitions to him and he has them. However, on this occasion, he is on command duty. The announcements by the Minister of National Education were all validated and arbitrated by Emmanuel Macron, and the plan was well prepared. Step 1 is the “clash of knowledge” by Gabriel Attal, because the President of the Republic wants well-shaped heads. Stage 2, which begins Wednesday December 6, is the president who takes over.

Emmanuel Macron reconnects with a political story, that of a France which projects itself into the future. HAS At his table, for lunch, there will be start-up bosses whose specialty is nuclear and aerospace. Thursday, December 7, he will give a speech to Nobel Prize winners and some of the best French researchers. Eleven of them are called upon to constitute the new presidential scientific council. “Everything is connected”, insists the Elysée. Monday December 11, direction Toulouse for a speech on France 2030: half of the program is already on track with 40,000 jobs created, investments in hydrogen and artificial intelligence.

When unemployment starts to rise again, when its adversaries chronicle a France prey to doubt, which is “dunce cap“, whose academic results are catastrophic, a France in decline under the influence of the terrorist threat and on the verge of civil war, Emmanuel Macron wants to talk about the future. Protecting and projecting are his new pillars to hold out for another four years.
