In Maine, there will be no ballot in the name of Donald Trump during the vote for the Republican primary for the 2024 presidential election. The Democratic secretary responsible for organizing elections in this small state in the northeast of the United States estimated, Friday December 29, that the former tenant of the White House was not “not fit for the office of president.” “I do not come to this conclusion lightly,” wrote Shenna Bellows in the official document reporting her decision, citing the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, by supporters of the ex-president.

The assault on the headquarters of the US Congress was committed “by order, with full knowledge and with the support of the outgoing president”, she estimated. However, the 14th Amendment to the American Constitution excludes from any public liability persons who have engaged in acts of“insurrection”. The previous week, the Colorado Supreme Court was the first to declare Donald Trump ineligible due to his actions following his defeat by Joe Biden in 2020.

An appeal from Trump expected

Maine’s decision will be “suspended” in the event of a legal challenge, however, clarified Shenna Bellows. Without delay, Donald Trump’s spokesperson announced that the businessman intended to challenge the decision in court, which could be the subject of a final appeal before the Supreme Court of the States -United.

The Republican Party of Colorado also asked the Supreme Court of the United States to review the decision taken in the mountainous western American state, which could make it possible to decide the subject in all the states where similar procedures have been initiated. Maine’s decision, like that of Colorado, at this stage only concerns the primaries organized to nominate the Republican Party’s presidential candidate.

Donald Trump attacked the person in charge of Maine, whom he called of “radical leftist” and D’“ardent supporter” of Joe Biden, the current president and next Democratic candidate, barring any surprises, in the 2024 election. “We are witnessing live an attempt to steal an election and the disenfranchisement of the American voter,” he lambasted again via his campaign team.
