(Montreal) Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau announced Monday the appointment of Quebecer Mike Duheme to the post of commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Mr. Duheme had already held this position on an interim basis for a little over a year. While he had been deputy commissioner since 2019, he had taken over the functions of the 24e RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki upon her retirement in March 2023.
His permanent appointment, announced Monday by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will ensure stability and continuity within the RCMP, says the federal government in a press release.
Originally from Chambly, Quebec, Mr. Duheme has served as a federal police officer for more than 35 years. First a general duty investigator in Nova Scotia, he then held various positions which led him to serve in four Canadian provinces, but also abroad.
In 2015, he became the officer in charge of the Parliamentary Protective Services and first director of the Parliamentary Protective Service. The following year, he was promoted to Commander of the National Division of the RCMP.
