Donald Trump committed on Friday September 27 to “solve” the conflict in Ukraine in the event of victory in the American presidential election on November 5, following a very delicate meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky. “This war should never have happened, but we will resolve it”said the former American president from New York, without explaining how he would go about it.

The billionaire called the conflict “complex puzzle”and called for a “fair deal for everyone”. Just before his exchange with the Ukrainian president, Donald Trump had already praised his “very good relationship” with Volodymyr Zelensky – but also with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I hope we have better relations”reacted the Ukrainian president, visibly embarrassed. Before assuring that he and Donald Trump shared the same objective: “end the war.”

Traveling in the United States since Sunday, Volodymyr Zelensky met current President Joe Biden, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, American parliamentarians as well as dignitaries from many countries on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly. “The United States plays a key role in a victory for the Ukrainians against Russia. Then it would be a question of defining what we mean by Ukraine’s victory. The question remains important”explained Thursday on franceinfo Guillaume Ancel, former officer.

American President Joe Biden announced Thursday a “increase” military aid to Ukraine, with an envelope of nearly 8 billion dollars and new long-range munitions. “Russia will not win”launched the American leader at the end of this meeting, without mentioning the authorization or not to fire long-range missiles manufactured in the United States towards Russia. Joe Biden also called for a high-level summit with 50 allies of Ukraine to be held in Germany in October.

The meeting with Donald Trump, however, promised to be more tense. The latter regularly denounces the enormous amounts released by Washington for kyiv since 2022. This week again, the septuagenarian described Volodymyr Zelensky as a “best salesperson on the planet”. “Every time he comes to our country, he leaves with 60 billion dollars”he quipped. A reference to the last envelope promised by Washington to kyiv, but very far from the other amounts obtained since the start of the war, in February 2022.
