After a fall and an operation | Sophia Loren recovering

(Rome) Italian actress Sophia Loren, 89, was recovering Monday after hip surgery for a fracture caused by a fall the day before at her home in Geneva.


“Successfully operated on, she will have to observe a brief period of convalescence then rehabilitation sessions,” the restaurant chain which she owns and which bears her name said in a press release on Facebook. “Fortunately everything went well and the Signora will soon be back with us.”

Legend of the golden age of Italian cinema, Sophia Loren, who celebrated her 89th birthday on September 20e anniversary, appeared in some 90 films, was crowned with two Oscars and an acting prize at Cannes.

It was during a beauty contest in Rome, in September 1951, that the young actress met producer Carlo Ponti, 22 years her senior who would become the man of her life and her cinema pygmalion.

Her career then took off and she made films with international ambition, such as Bread, love, so be it by Dino Risi or The girl from the river by Mario Soldati, in 1955.

From 1957, the voluptuous brunette with almond-shaped eyes played in Hollywood alongside the greatest actors of the time, from Anthony Quinn to Clark Gable, including Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, Peter Sellers, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra…

” THE sex appealit’s 50% of what you have, and 50% of what people think you have,” the actress likes to say.

His last appearance in the cinema dates back to 2020 in The life ahead, an adaptation of Romain Gary’s novel directed by his son Edoardo Ponti. Thanks to this role, she won the Best Actress Award at the Césars for Italian Cinema in 2021.
