The French journalist, hostage of a jihadist group for nearly two years in Mali, was released on Monday March 20. He arrived in France on Tuesday March 21, and was able to find his family.

The plane finally landed on the tarmac at Villacoublay airport (Yvelines). The door opens on Olivier Dubois, all smiles, who sets foot on French territory after 711 days of detention. The independent journalist rushed into the arms of his sister, under the eyes of Emmanuel Macron. “First of all, it’s a moment of great emotion, we’ve been planning for two years“, testifies Dov Alfon, director of the publication of Releasewhich employs Olivier Dubois.

Olivier Dubois’ family relieved

The day before, at Niamey airport (Niger), Olivier Dubois said he was fine, despite the fatigue. Based in Bamako, Mali, he was abducted in Gao on April 8, 2021, while on his way to interview a jihadist leader. He himself announced his abduction in a video. Where was he detained? What allowed his release? Emmanuel Macron thanked Niger for its cooperation. In Martinique, where Olivier Dubois is from, his relatives are relieved.
