after 50 years of good and loyal service, the Saint-Roch hotel-restaurant will close

“It will be difficult because I will no longer be with my usual clients”, concedes Evelyne Halter, 71 years old and patroness of this hotel-restaurant since its inception. But at some point, “It’s time. I gave. It’s a tough job and I think I did it the best I could.”she draws up, taking stock after 50 years Services. Because yes, this Sunday May 1st will be the last day of opening du Saint-Roch near the station of the same name in Amiens.

“It will leave a void in the neighborhood”, already regrets Elisabeth, a neighbor who has become a regular. She knows she’s enjoying her last coffees sitting at the bar. “If it disappears, of course it’s sad”, she says. And when we talk to him of a potential real estate project instead: “one more,” she sighs. “All the Amiens end up like that here. It becomes student apartments, it turns around a lot and we don’t know anyone anymore”she says.

A retreat on the Opal Coast

“I’m going to go enjoy the coast with my family, travel”, says Evelyne Halter, who plans to settle in Berck in Pas-de-Calais. But first, you have to take care customers calling in numbers to come and eat at her house one last time. “We are overwhelmed with calls from those who have not come for a long time or who regret not having come often enough. Too bad, you had to come and see us”smiles the almost neo-retired.

Before leaving her professional life for good, Evelyne invited her friends, this Sunday afternoon, to “a bottle-empty”. “We are brave and we will work on May 1!”, she exclaims. A final moment of sharing, in the spirit of Saint-Roch. “I believe that many will not be fresh on Monday morning”she finishes.

France Bleu Picardie, where she has come to present her recipes several times, wishes her a very happy retirement!
