In Afghanistan, over the months, the Taliban regime restricts women’s freedoms. He has just ordered the closure of beauty salons. There are thousands of them in the country, which welcome women and which are also run by women.

The women are discreet, almost invisible in the streets of Kabul (Afghanistan). Since the return to power of the Islamists, the country is sinking into discrimination. The Supreme Leader has just announced that beauty salons have one month to close their doors permanently. The institutes had multiplied during the 20 years of American occupation. The women came to take care of themselves and find themselves far from the gaze of men, a precious space of freedom.

“I’m going to die slowly at home”

“Schools are forbidden to women, now beauty salons… Do women have the right to have a place in this society?asks an Afghan woman. By losing their jobs, they lose their income, but more. “This job was my only hope. I will now die slowly at home”, deplores a woman working in an institute. Many women then go into hiding to work, like one of them who secretly teleworks for an NGO.
