(Kabul) Six people were killed and 13 injured on Monday in the southwest of Kabul by a man who blew himself up, the spokesman for the police in the Afghan capital announced in the evening.
“This afternoon, a person carrying explosives blew himself up in the Qala-e-Bakhtiar neighborhood… Unfortunately, six people, including a woman, were killed and 13 injured,” Khalid Zadran announced on the social network X.
The injured, whose condition has not been specified, were quickly transported to hospital, the spokesman added, and an investigation has been opened.
This attack, which occurred in a busy area in the middle of the afternoon, was not immediately claimed.
Although security has generally returned to Afghanistan with the return of the Taliban three years ago, the country is still regularly shaken by attacks by the jihadist group Islamic State (IS), or its regional branch, IS-K (Islamic State of Khorasan).
Unbearable images were circulating on social media, showing dismembered bodies lying in pools of blood.
One of the photos shows a man with a blown-out rib cage, who may have been the suicide bomber.
The last suicide attack claimed by IS in Afghanistan took place on March 21 in Kandahar (south), the historic stronghold of the Taliban.
While the Taliban authorities had announced a death toll of three and a dozen injured, a hospital source in the city had told AFP a death toll of 20, among men present in front of a bank.
More recently, ISIS claimed responsibility for a bombing that killed at least one person and injured a dozen others in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood of Kabul in mid-August.
