Aerosmith cuts farewell tour short, Montreal show cancelled

(Los Angeles) Rock band Aerosmith is suspending its farewell tour indefinitely after lead singer Steven Tyler’s voice was permanently damaged by a vocal cord injury last year.


This is what the iconic group behind hits like Love in an Elevator And Livin’on the EdgeThe American band, which has been successful for 50 years, released a statement on Friday announcing the cancellation of the remaining dates of its tour and providing an update on Tyler’s vocals.

“He has spent months working tirelessly to get his voice back to its original state. We have watched him struggle despite having the best medical team by his side. Unfortunately, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible,” the statement said.

We have made the heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision—as a brotherly group—to retire from performing.

Aerosmith fans in Quebec who purchased tickets for the January 10th farewell concert at the Bell Centre in Montreal will be refunded. They had been waiting a long time since the band was originally scheduled to perform there in January 2024, but a fractured larynx by Tyler changed the plans.

“For those who purchased your tickets through Ticketmaster, you will be automatically refunded — there is nothing else you need to do. For those who purchased from third-party resale sites like SeatGeek, StubHub, VividSeats, etc. — please contact your point of purchase,” the group’s website states.

Aerosmith’s last show in the Quebec metropolis was 20 years ago. The legendary group also wowed the crowd on the Plains of Abraham at the Quebec City Summer Festival in July 2012.

Tyler announced that he injured his vocal cords last September during a concert on the tour. Peace Out: The Farewell TourHe said on Instagram at the time that the injury had caused some bleeding, but that he was hopeful the band would be back after postponing a few shows.

Tyler’s voice has powered Aerosmith’s massive catalog of hits since their formation in 1970, including Dream On, Walk This Way And Sweet EmotionThe band was embarking on their farewell tour, which included 40 stops, when the singer injured his vocal cords.

“It has been the honor of our lives to make our music a part of yours,” the band states on its official webpage. “In every club, on every tour, and in some grand and private moments, you have made a place for us in the soundtrack of your lives.”

Aerosmith is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The group is a four-time Grammy Award winner, honoring the music industry in the United States.

In addition to Steven Tyler, the other members of the group are Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer.
