From the age of 17, Adrien Maaninou gradually lost his sight. She was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. Thanks to the Telethon, he was able to benefit from a clinical trial of cell therapy.
At 17, Adrien Maaninou learns that he has retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disease of the eye characterized by progressive degeneration of eyesight, ultimately causing blindness. “I have blurry eyesight, a blur in the middle of which there are shapes that stand out a bit, in a very small field of vision. All the colors are a little faded, I am also very embarrassed by the light“, describes the dad of Théo, 2 years old.
“He doesn’t complain, he moves forward, he does his utmost to continue living as less abnormally as possible“, says Marine Olivier, wife of Adrien Maaninou. However, the disease is progressing and has a little more impact on his daily life. Ten months ago, Adrien was operated on as part of a cell therapy trial. The aim is to ensure that a patch of stem cells is tolerated by the human eye. “I want to heal. Deep inside me, maybe there’s a little bit of gullibility, but anyway, the research is progressing“, he confides, thanks to the Telethon and online donations or to 3637.
