Forget the municipal elections. The big winners of Sunday night are called Klô Pelgag – she even tied a Celine Dion record – and Roxane Bruneau, each having won two important votes at the ADISQ gala.

The first was crowned in the categories Author or composer of the year and Online show of the year – French-speaking, while the second won the Félix awards for female performer of the year and song of the year, two prizes awarded in part by the public.

The televised evening, conducted by Louis-José Houde (alias Jos Louis according to FouKi) live from the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, was marked by the return of spectators. “We are so beautiful and numerous that we should start our own variant,” joked the host, before delivering a biting monologue against a background of cultural appropriation and allegations of sexual misconduct.

The gala was first introduced by a slam by David Goudreault, I appeal to poetry, placed on the ropes of Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà. Innu singer Scott-Pien Picard, electronic musician CRi and “coconut” darling Roxane Bruneau also participated in the opening medley.

Alongside Céline

Early Sunday evening, Klô Pelgag picked up a first trophy for his virtual show To live, then a second highly coveted for her work as an author and composer on the record Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows. In 2017, the singer became the first woman to win such an award in nearly a quarter of a century. The darling of the galas was more conservative than usual in her thanks, all the same inviting commercial radio stations to better play their “social role” and to put forward Quebec talent.

Thanks to his double on Sunday, Klô Pelgag brings his 2021 collection to 13 statuettes out of a possible 16, including those awarded at the Industry Gala. Wednesday, the singer-songwriter got his hands on four Felixes, including the Critics’ Choice, during the First ADISQ gala.

The association believes that the artist has made a total of six so-called “artistic” categories (as opposed to “industrial”), which places her in history alongside Celine Dion. The famous Charlemagne singer had grabbed six statuettes in 1985.

Roxane Bruneau sees double

Pelgag would have ended the debate by winning the award for female performer of the year, but it is rather Roxane Bruneau who took the honors, in part thanks to the votes of Internet users.

I quit school, I quit my job. That proves to me that it is correct, I am not in the wrong.

His “coconuts” have also acclaimed the song In my way, the favorite of the academy and the public in front of On my shoulder, dashing Cowboys. By adding his two Felixes already in his pocket, Roxane Bruneau established his harvest at four awards.

Unsurprisingly, the quartet that made America cry last year made up for it by going for the Félix for the group or duo of the year. More incongruous, but oh so pleasing: CRi became the first electronic musician to be named Revelation of the Year thanks to his excellent album Juvenile. “Eight years ago, I was in my mother’s basement. She told me: “Push, go to music”, ”he said, before concluding with a feeling:“ Finally we can dance, criss! “

Shout

Proof that hip-hop continues to progress in the popular and commercial fields, it is the rapper FouKi who rose to grab the statuette of male performer of the year. “I didn’t think I was going to win, so I didn’t prepare anything,” he confessed. It was the second time that the versifier had set foot on the stage, the first for an improbable number alongside Dominique Fils-Aimé and Élage Diouf.

FouKi, on the other hand, saw his projects Luxury snacks and Budding geniuses, with Koriass, downgraded by Normal from the east, Connoisseur Ticaso’s first complete disc, named rap album of the year. This is the first Felix for the legend of Montreal street rap, absent Sunday.

Anachnid

First statuette also for Anachnid, native artist of the year, who had contented himself with a nomination last year after the triumph of Elisapie. It was the latter who presented the Félix, mostly in Inuktitut.

After a country performance bringing together Léa Jarry, Guylaine Tanguay, Irvin Blais and Alex Burger, the latter was going to be rewarded for Sweet Montérégie in the Country album category. “Go see the bands you like,” he pleaded, echoing a similar call from Vincent Vallières. The latter also took out his guitar whileMan of nothing, in concert with the instrumentalist Simon Leoza.

Still on the stage, an ultra energetic Klô Pelgag defended his piece Melanin, moving through the scattered spectators as a dancer fidgeted in a kind of snow globe. Charlotte Cardin, who won her first three Félix on Wednesday at the First ADISQ gala, offered the poignant piano-voice ballad Anyone Who Loves Me, chorus in support. “The album is available everywhere, tickets are available… nowhere,” Louis-Jean Houde laughed during the presentation.

It was Louis-Jean Cormier who received the first Félix of the evening. The singer-songwriter distinguished himself with his fourth solo album, Heaven is on the floor, in the Album of the Year – Contemporary Adult category. Daniel Bélanger won his 23e Félix in career for the instrumental album Traveling. He was not, however, present to receive his award.

In total, 12 Felix were awarded Sunday evening during an evening without much brilliance but regulated like music paper.
