ADISQ | A new category for R&B, soul and gospel albums

The next ADISQ gala will include a new category rewarding R&B, soul and gospel albums.

The Quebec Association of the Recording, Entertainment and Video Industry (ADISQ) announced this new Félix on Monday, an approach that it describes as “extremely rare”.

The prize will be presented during the First ADISQ Gala on October 30.

This decision follows performances by the Advance group, which includes Maison Kanda, by singer-songwriter Corneille.

“Even if the primary objective of many artists is not to create for the validation of their local industry, it remains an important mark of legitimacy which supports their career,” underlined the artist in a press release from ADISQ .

“This new category encourages Soul/R&B and Gospel artists to dream in French, to succeed here and to export themselves in one of the most influential styles in the world. »

ADISQ also announced changes to the way it designates winners. For the next gala, there will be two new categories that will be subject to public voting: “Indigenous Artist of the Year” and “Revelation of the Year.”

Several other important categories were already chosen by the public, including “Female Artist of the Year”, “Male Artist of the Year” and “Song of the Year”.

For the album of the year awards, ADISQ has also reduced the impact that album sales will have in the vote. From now on, album sales will represent only 25% of the final result, while the jury will account for 75%. Previously, album sales accounted for 40% of the result.
