Adapt your garden to drought with our expert Étienne Wirth

This summer’s drought has had a strong impact on our gardens and vegetable gardens, which have suffered, just like us. Thanks to our garden expert Étienne Wirth, discover simple tips to overcome this lack of water.

Fighting against drought and ensuring that our plants and trees don’t suffer too much from a lack of water: that’s the challenge we set to Etienne Wirth, our garden expert.

Tips from our expert

It is possible to use a kind of tarpaulin which is in fact a geotextile. Very resistant, it not only has a color (close to earth) which is interesting, but it is also permeable and rot-proof.

When we have a mass to achieve, and once it has been cleaned properly, dug up, turned over, scratched, you must spread out this tarp before any planting, then cut it out and put its plants, trees, biennial shrubs or even grasses. All it takes is one watering to get retention of water and humidity much more important.

It is also possible to garnish, around the feet, with pine bark, to a thickness of 10 to 15 cm. There are also poplar chips.

What about landscaping my garden?

If you want to make a driveway or stabilized ground, then you can use a honeycomb structure. Once covered with pebbles, crushed stones or even pozzolan (volcanic lava), you get a path that is permeable and on which you can walk without problem.
