Quebec director Joël Vaudreuil won the Grand Prize on Wednesday at the Niigata International Animated Film Festival, Japan, for his first feature film, Adam is slowly changing.
“Japan being the cradle of animated cinema, winning an award there is a consecration for Joël,” Olivier Picard, producer at Parce Que Films, said in a press release. Joël Vaudreuil’s film was one of 12 finalists from four countries around the world (Brazil, Hungary, United Kingdom, Japan, Thailand, France, Switzerland, Spain, United States, Colombia).
Adam is slowly changing follows the adventures of Adam, a suburban teenager whose body changes according to the mockery and negative comments he receives. The voices of the characters are those of actors and actresses Simon Lacroix, Noémie O’Farrell, Sophie Desmarais, Marc Beaupré, Isabelle Brouillette, Antoine Vézina, Julianne Côté, Fabien Cloutier, Alexis Lefebvre, Sophie Cadieux and Gaston Lepage.
Multidisciplinary artist, Joël Vaudreuil directed the short films Magnificent life underwater (2015), The kid with six hot dogs (2011), Midday recess (2009) and The weak current of the river (2013).
