During the Laval Virtual show, Laurent Giraldon and Nicolas Ribeyre tested Skinetic, a jacket with haptic feedback that reproduces extremely realistic sensations during virtual reality experiences.
The haptic jacket proposed by Actronika allows to experience the sensation of contact and touch in the real world according to the events that occur in virtual reality. In the world of gaming or professional training, this technology allows total immersion by reproducing sensations in real time such as fire, wind, the use of tools, shooting or even social interactions.
Innovative haptic technology for maximum immersion
The design of the jacket was developed in collaboration with the Parisian workshop Les Vertugadins and incorporates 20 patented voice coil haptic motors among the most powerful on the market and which can be individually controlled. Distributed over the entire torso, they cover all vibrotactile perception and are thus capable of providing a wide variety of sensations. To map the position of the haptic motors in the Skinetic jacket, a study on the sensitivity of the human body was carried out by one of the researchers of the Actronika team, Claire Richard, working on bone conduction in order to optimize the perception and the feeling of effects in virtual experiences. Skinetic has been designed to adapt to all public morphologies thanks to 6 adjustment points and to put on and adjust quickly. It also has an interchangeable and washable lining.
Intuitive tools designed for developers
Along with Skinetic, Actronika also provides Unitouch, a comprehensive haptic platform to help developers create immersive experiences. Unitouch includes a haptic rendering engine to facilitate the integration of vibrotactile haptics in games and augmented reality, a collection of pre-designed touch effects to help design immersive interactions and a tool to design your own sensations haptics. The Skinetic haptic jacket is on sale at 489 euros as part of a Kickstarter campaign.
About Actronika
Based on more than 30 years of research by its co-founder Vincent Hayward, recently elected to the Academy of Sciences, Actronika has developed haptic technology that allows tactile feedback to be easily integrated into any human-machine interface: such as smartphones to improve the user experience, vehicle touch screens to reduce driver distraction, game controllers to improve immersion. The possibilities are limitless.
