She will not have to pay the 3.3 million dollars demanded by the prosecution. American actress Gwyneth Paltrow, prosecuted for her involvement in a skiing accident at a Utah resort in 2016, won her trial on Thursday March 30.

The jury unanimously ruled that the actress was not responsible for the accident that occurred with a retired health professional, Terry Sanderson. Gwyneth Paltrow got the token dollar she was asking for. The jury estimated, after three hours of deliberation, that it was on the contrary Terry Sanderson who had caused the accident.

The 76-year-old optometrist said the collision had broken four ribs and caused lasting psychological damage. He had launched legal proceedings in 2019 against the actress.

“He hit her, he hurt her”

At the heart of the case, the question was to know which skier struck the other. According to the complainant, Gwyneth Paltrow ran into him while skiing “dangerous”before fleeing, leaving him unconscious.

The actress assures on the contrary that Terry Sanderson hit her in the back. Her lawyer says she “wasn’t going fast” and that she got scared when the pensioner appeared behind her. “He hit her. He hurt her (…) and he asked her for $ 3 million afterwards, for fun”said the lawyer of Gwyneth Paltrow, Stephen Owens.

The trial, which lasted more than a week, saw specific details about Terry Sanderson’s health, including pre-existing medical conditions. Some members of his family also testified to describe a man with a difficult character, even before the accident.
