Anouk Grinberg, one of the actresses who decided to denounce sexual assault in the 7th art, returns to the set of Jean Becker’s film Green Shutters (2022), in which she participated and after which a member of the team filed a complaint of sexual assault against Gérard Depardieu. “What people saw in Further investigation (on Depardieu), it’s pretty much soft compared to what I saw on the Green shutters, and I’m not the only one, we’ve all seen it, we’ve all heard it (…). From morning to evening, we had the right to his salaceries”, declared the actress to AFP.
Following this filming, a new woman filed a complaint in February against Gérard Depardieu. The affair was revealed by Mediapart : after many serious comments from the actor, Amélie, 53, a film decorator, told the online newspaper that she had been “caught brutally”. He has it “blocked by closing her legs on me like a crab” and he “kneaded the waist, the stomach, going up to her breasts”, she said, expressing the trauma she felt. It was the intervention of Depardieu’s bodyguards which put an end to the attack.
Depardieu’s behavior ‘has seriously worsened’
“When film producers hire Depardieu on a film, they know they are hiring an aggressor. Not a potential aggressor: an aggressor,” believes Anouk Grinberg, for whom the actor’s behavior has evolved. “I always heard him making sexual, serious remarks, but it got very, very seriously worse, courtesy of the profession which pays him for it, and which covers up his crimes”she confided to AFP. “On certain films with Depardieu, we tell the team before filming: if there is the slightest problem, you keep quiet. If you speak, you are fired. It’s effective. (…) People are afraid for their apple, afraid of losing their job and afraid of not being believed.”
Anouk Grinberg also looks back on her past “complicity” with the complacency of the environment. “I changed my life. (…) After being demolished by (director Bertrand) Blier [son ex-mari] and his cinema, I spent ten years away from that, and during these ten years, I didn’t do anything, I thought. Afterwards, there are very important encounters which allow us to be revealed to ourselves, to have access to our truth. (…) Six years ago, I met Charlotte Arnould, who at that time was very, very alone, completely devastated by what she had just suffered.”
Gérard Depardieu is the target of five complaints for rape and sexual assault. The actress Charlotte Arnould was the first to go to the gendarmerie to denounce him, in 2018. She claims to have been raped twice by the actor at the latter’s Parisian home, who denies the facts. Fifteen other women accuse him of sexist and sexual violence. In April 2023, Mediapart reported the testimony of thirteen women assuring “having suffered inappropriate sexual gestures or remarks”. Two other women testified at France Inter last July.
Anouk Grinberg had already spoken in She last October, stating that “everyone who worked with Depardieu knows that he attacks women”, denouncing the “deafening silence” from the world of cinema and providing support to Charlotte Arnould.
