On screen, the character of Luke Skywalker wields a lightsaber. In life, his interpreter helps supply drones to the Ukrainian army. In an interview on the radio of the American media Bloomberg (article in English)Mark Hamill declared, Thursday, October 20, to have sent at least 500 drones to the Ukrainian army, via the United24 platform and his project “Army of Drones” (“an army of drones”), of which he is an ambassador.

“Very simply: Ukraine needs drones. They determine the outcome of the war, they protect their land, their people, they guard the border, they are eyes in the sky”, explained the 71-year-old actor.

The United24 initiative, launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aims to collect donations to help Ukraine, but also its army, in the conflict between it and Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

The American actor thus explains having contributed to the dispatch of at least 500 drones. “I was very surprised because they give updates on the progress of the project at least two, three times a week, and they said they have received more than 500 drones since I started [à donner].

“In this long and unequal struggle, Ukraine needs continued additional support,” Mark Hamill had already said in a press release about this initiative. “Now is the time to come together to help Ukraine in this war against the Evil Empire”he said, comparing Russia to the adversary of his fictional character.
