Actor Lance Reddick, star of The Wire series, dies

(New York) American actor Lance Reddick, who specializes in intense, chilling, and sometimes sinister authority figures in television and film, notably in TheWire, fringe and the franchise John Wick, died. He was 60 years old.

He died “suddenly” on Friday morning, his agent Mia Hansen said in a statement, attributing his death to natural causes. His death was first reported by celebrity website TMZ.com.

Often dressed in an impeccable suit during his career, Lance Reddick has played the great taciturn and elegant men. He was best known for his portrayal of Lt. Cedric Daniels on the hit series TheWire (HBO).

Reddick also played special agent Phillip Broyles in the series “Fringe”, the elegant Matthew Abaddon in Lost and the multi-talented concierge at the Continental Hotel Charon in the movies John Wick — including the fourth, due out later this month.

He was also for seven years in the distribution of the “Bosch” series.

Born and raised in Baltimore, he had studied at Yale University’s School of Drama. This is during the fourth season of the TV series ozwhere he played an undercover officer, which Reddick made a real breakthrough.

“I’ve never been interested in television: I’ve always seen it as a means to an end. Like so many actors, I was only interested in theater and film. But oz changed the television. It was the start of HBO’s reign of quality, edgy, artistic stuff. Things reminiscent of the great cinema of the 1960s and 1970s,” he told The Associated Press in 2011.

“I am an artist at heart. I feel that I am very good at what I do. When I went to drama school, I knew I was at least as talented as the other students, but because I was a black man and I wasn’t handsome, I knew I should work hard to be the best and be noticed,” he told the Los Angeles Times in 2009.

Lance Reddick is survived by his wife, Stephanie Reddick, and his children, Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick.

Wendell Pierce, his co-star in TheWire, paid tribute to him on Twitter on Friday. “A man of great strength and great grace. As talented as a musician as an actor. The pinnacle of the class. »
