Actor Jonathan Majors found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend

(New York) Jonathan Majors was found guilty Monday of assaulting his former girlfriend, following a two-week trial that the actor hoped would salvage his tarnished reputation and restore his status as a Hollywood star emerging.

A Manhattan jury found Majors, 34, guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment. He was acquitted of another charge of aggravated assault and harassment.

Majors, who was asked to stand and face jurors as the verdict was read, showed no immediate reaction, looking slightly down.

His sentence was set for February 6. He faces up to a year in prison for the attack.

The charges stem from an argument between the actor Creed III and his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, who started in the backseat of a chauffeur-driven car and continued through the streets of Manhattan last March.

Grace Jabbari, a 30-year-old British dancer, accused Mr Majors of attacking her inside the vehicle, leaving her in “excruciating” pain. She said he hit her in the head with his open hand, twisted her arm behind her back and squeezed her middle finger until it fractured.

Ms Majors’ lawyers said she was the aggressor, saying she flew into a jealous rage after reading a text message on her phone from another woman. They said Ms Jabbari spread a “fantasy” to bring down the actor, who was only trying to get his phone and escape to safety.

The verdict dealt a severe blow to Mr. Majors, who was on the verge of becoming a Hollywood star until his arrest last March ended his career.
