Actor Gérard Darmon and co-founder of Mediapart Edwy Plenel were guests of the show “On est en direct” on France 2, Saturday February 5. “Edwy Plenel is a man who trembles when he speaks, it’s something quite disturbing”, began to criticize the actor. For more than two minutes, Gérard Darmon painted a vitriolic portrait of the journalist. “I feel like I’ve been hearing this speech for four centuries”he reproached him. “You know everything and nothing else!” launched the comedian again, calling Edwy Plenel a kind of “the bogeyman of politics, even of human relations”.

Edwy Plenel then defended himself, denouncing a “caricature, prejudice”. “We, the journalists who carry the pen in the wound (…), we are used to that, to the fact that people see us as barking dogs, inquisitors, persecutors.” He then invited the actor to quote information published by Mediapart “which was not of public interest, which was not true”.

“This personal attack was actually aimed at journalism, at least that which investigates, researches and reveals in the service of the public interest”then wrote Edwy Plenel on Twitter.
