In 2019, Dylan Robert gained notoriety by winning the César for Most Promising Actor, for his notable role in the film Scheherazade. But a few weeks later, the now 24-year-old actor was implicated in a series of necklace snatchings in Marseille. His trial was held this Friday March 15, 2024, and the actor, who admitted the facts, received a heavy sanction. As revealed by BFMTV, Dylan Robert was sentenced to four years in prison, including three years in prison, one year suspended for two years, and warrant of committal. The public prosecutor had requested a heavier sentence, and had demanded five years in prison, arguing: “He doesn’t remember the facts because he committed too many.”
Indeed, for several months, Dylan Robert carried out a series of snatch thefts, including during the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, as he explained in court: “I was experiencing extraordinary things on the one hand, but on the other hand, I fell into a spiral, and I needed money. The Cannes Film Festival is not paid“ justified the young man, who saw his barely started career suddenly come to an end.
The investigating judge retained at least fifteen snatchings, committed between April and July 2019. The modus operandi was always the same, and the offenses were committed with a friend, who is on the run : they arrived on scooters, snatched the jewelry violently, then fled. Some victims were seriously injured, and a 59-year-old woman notably broke her femur for three stolen braceletsresold at 25 euros per gram of diamond.
Two other cases soon to be judged, including one for “assassination”
Although he insisted on apologizing for all the thefts he committed, Dylan Robert was nevertheless heavily condemned, and will have to answer in a few months for other acts for which he was indicted. The man, who has been on remand at Draguignan prison for several months, is indicted for “assassination and attempted assassination by an organized gang” after the murder of a teenager in August 2021 in Marseille. As such, he faces life imprisonment.. In addition, he will be tried next October in another case, this time of carjacking.
