American actor Andre Braugher died at the age of 61, his press secretary, Jennifer Allen, told the Associated Press on Tuesday, December 12, confirming information from the American specialist magazine Variety. He died Monday after a brief illness, his press secretary said. The actor, born in Chicago (Illinois), became known in 1989 in the film glory with Denzel Washington, who tells the story of a rAll-black army regiment during the Civil War.

But it was on television that he found fame with his role as detective Frank Pembleton, whom he played from 1993 to 1998 in Homicidea detective series inspired by a book by Baltimore journalist David Simon, future author of another famous detective series centered on this city in the state of Maryland, The Wire (Bugged).

For this role of Frank Pembleton, Andre Braugher won his first Emmy Award (best actor in a drama series) in 1998. He won another, that of best actor in a miniseries or a film, in 2006, for his role in the mini-series Thief.
