Activists from Extinction Rebellion entered the Arkema chemical site, near Lyon (Rhône). They accuse the company of contaminating the Rhône with eternal pollutants.

A fence is cut and hundreds of activists enter an Arkema factory. Members of Extinction Rebellion and Youth for Climate, dressed in white jumpsuits, attack the building’s entry point. According to the organizers, there are 300, 150 according to the Prefecture, protesting against the pollution generated by Arkema. Activists accuse the company of dumping its products into the Rhône.

Eight people arrested

To remedy the problem, they put forward three demands: that data related to pollution be public, limit concrete pollution and compensation for victims of pollution. For its part, the company believes it is not at fault. The protest was stopped by the arrival of the CRS, eight people were arrested according to the Prefecture. The factory announced it was filing a complaint.
