Acrobatic Sky | Mikaël Kingsbury second in moguls in Sweden

(Idre Fjäll) Quebec’s Mikaël Kingsbury finished second in the second mogul event of the Freestyle Skiing World Cup season on Saturday in Idre Fjäll, Sweden.

After finishing fourth in Final 1 with a score of 78.80, Kingsbury performed better in Final 2, scoring 79.86.

He was, however, beaten by Nick Page, a 20-year-old American (81.02), the only skier to score above 80 points throughout the weekend.

Kingsbury came close to reaching 80 points in qualifying on Friday. He had then registered a score of 79.96, the best among the 56 participants registered in the competition.

Sweden’s Walter Wallberg (78.98) finished third in Final 2.

No other Canadian had managed to carve out a place on Friday among the group of 16 skiers qualified for Final 1. Quebecer Gabriel Dufresne had almost succeeded, but his score of 71.81 had left him in 17e rank, less than a point behind Swede Filip Gravenfors.

Despite this second place on Saturday, Kingsbury occupies first place in the general classification of the discipline with 180 points, 30 more than Page.

In the women’s category, Australia’s Jakara Anthony (81.75) won the gold medal ahead of Japan’s Anri Kawamura (80.02) and France’s Perrine Laffont (76.08).
